New Zealand study finds correlation between church attendance and adolescent obesity

Wednesday, December 4, 2013

A study published this month in Journal of Primary Health Care by researchers at the School of Population Health, University of Auckland found a correlation between adolescent obesity amongst Pacific Islanders (PI) living in New Zealand and church attendance. The results were based on interviews with 2,495 Auckland teenagers attending six different secondary schools, questionnaires given to students, and anthropometric measurements such as body mass index.

While the percentage of non-churchgoing overweight — as opposed to normal or obese — adolescents was the same as churchgoing for Samoans and Cook Island Maori, 1% higher for “other PI” and 7% higher for Tongans, the rate of obese churchgoing adolescents was higher across all groups. Samoan churchgoing teens had an obese percentage of 38% compared to 35% for their non-churchgoing peers. For Cook Island Maori, it was 29% compared to 23%; for Tongans, 37% to 29%; for other PI, 31% to 29%.

The study sought to examine different factors between churchgoing and non-churchgoing populations, finding that Samoan and Tongan churchgoers were more likely than non-churchgoers to have watched four or more hours of television or DVDs on the previous Saturday night. On the last Sunday night, non-churchgoers were more likely to have watched four or more hours across all groups, but the total percentages for churchgoers increased compared to Saturday; particularly, while only 13% of Cook Island Maori and other PI watched four or more hours on Saturday, 30% watched four or more hours on Sunday.

Researchers also found that across all PI groups, non-churchgoing teens were more likely to have less than one serving of fruit a day and were a bit more likely to not eat lunch. With the exception of other PI, non-churchgoing teens were also more likely to rarely eat pies, fast food, and fried food compared to their churchgoing peers. Samoan churchgoers were also statistically more likely to consume soft drinks than their non-churchgoing peers.

The work by Ofa A. Dewes, Robert Scragg, and C. Raina Elley built on existing research regarding obesity in PI communities, and other global studies that have found higher rates of obesity in churchgoing populations. They claim their research in this area is important because as an ethnic group, PI had the highest rates of childhood and adult obesity.

It is generally accepted that frankincense is a member of the family Burseraceae, and the genus Boswellia.

Collection The collecting of frankincense requires that a deep, longitudinal incision is made in the trunk of the tree and below it a narrow strip of bark 5 inches in length is peeled off. As a result of the incision, a milk-like substance, oleo resin, is produced which hardens due to exposure to the air. The incision is then deepened. After about three months the resin hardens into yellowish tears which are harvested by scraping them off the tree. Research According to the BBC: Scientists have observed that there is some agent within frankincense which stops cancer spreading, and which induces cancerous cells to close themselves down. Working with frankincense could revolutionise the treatment of cancer. Currently, with chemotherapy, doctors blast the area around a tumour to kill the cancer, but that also kills healthy cells, and weakens the patient. Treatment with frankincense could eradicate the cancerous cells alone and let the others live. A Virginia Tech scientist says frankincense oil might be useful in treating malignant melanoma an aggressive cancer that attacks humans and equines. Uses Eight to ten drops of frankincense oil in bathwater can also relieve the burning of urinary tract infections. A few drops of frankincense oil sprinkled on a cloth or handkerchief and inhaled frequently can relieve the nasal congestion associated with common colds or allergies Women suffering from heavy periods can apply three to four drops in a carrier oil and massage on the lower abdomen twice a day. Its topical application helps to relieve from rheumatic and arthritic conditions. It is used to treat vaginal infections by using as a douche. It is inhaled to get rid of mucus in bronchial infections. For dental health, it is used as a mouthwash. It is also used to treat gum and throat conditions. It is used to make many anti-wrinkle lotions and creams. It is known to deliver beneficial results in helping combat anxiety, asthma, bronchitis, stress, cough, scars & stretch marks. Today, it is used in a number of ways, including the treating of: Indigestion Anxiety Immune system problems Sleep problems Bronchitis Asthma Emphysema Congestion Laryngitis Syphilis

British Airways give medals to Flight 38’s crew

Thursday, July 10, 2008

The three members of the flight crew and thirteen members of British Airways Flight 38 have been awarded with the BA Safety Medal. The airline considers the award to be its highest accolade and has only awarded it three times before.

On January 17 the Boeing 777 airliner was on final approach to Heathrow Airport with 136 passengers on board when it suffered a loss of engine power. The plane crash landed immediately beyond the perimeter fence, just before the start of the runway.

British Airways say that due to the crew’s professionalism only minor injuries were sustained. The medals have been awarded for their handling of the accident.

Captain Peter Burkill, who was on board, said “It is a great privilege for us to receive the BA Safety Medal. We are extremely honoured to be added to the list of the very few people who have received this award. The training we undergo at British Airways is second to none. During the events of the 17 January these skills kicked in, as we did everything we could to ensure the safety of our passengers.”

Armed troops take control of Suva, Fiji

Thursday, November 30, 2006

Armed Fijian soldiers took control of the streets of Suva, Fiji just before dawn

In a show of force, the troops fired a mortar into the harbour and over Nukulau Island, where George Speight, leader of the Fiji Coup of 2000, is currently serving a term of life imprisonment for his role in the overthrow of the constitutional government. Most of the mortar rounds fell into the ocean.

Soldiers, travelling in a convoy of trucks, set up barricades on key roads that led into the central business district of Suva while others patrolled the city.

Major Neumi Leweni, a military spokesman, said that the activity is not a military coup in disguise. “The exercise is in anticipation of any foreign intervention and the [Fiji military] is taking all precautionary measures.” He pointed out to sea where an Australian black hawk helicopter had crashed and where three Australian warships were moored. Australian officials said the ships were there in case Australian citizens needed to be evacuated.

The black hawk helicopter that had crashed was attempting to land on the HMAS Kanimbla, and its passengers were Special Air Service soldiers. Referring to the crash, Major Leweni said: “[It] just confirms that there are other forces out there and that is exactly why we are doing this exercise”.

Talks in New Zealand between Laisenia Qarase, Prime Minister of Fiji, and , military commander Commodore Frank Bainimarama concluded without an agreement. Winston Peters, foreign minister for New Zealand, said the talks were “lengthy, serious and meaningful”, but ultimately unsuccessful. Mr. Qarase said the three hour talks were not long enough to get to any conclusion, “…it was a good start and there is need for further consultations on some of the issues.”

Mr Qarase arrived at Nadi via a Royal New Zealand Air Force plane and then flew on an Air Chatham Islands plan to Suva. He was met by questioning media. Mr Qarase remained quiet. Commodore Bainimarama also said nothing to the awaiting media when he arrived in Fiji on a commercial flight.

Mr Qarase has requested that all regional foreign ministers come to a meeting being held in Sydney, Australia tomorrow that is related to the coup threats.

Countries that are part of the Pacific Forum are able to help other member countries, if the government asks for help.

Ambassadors from the United States of America, Australia and Britain have all met with Fijian military officers to seek insurances that there wasn’t going to be a coup. Major Lewini responded angrily, “[It is] inappropriate for a civilian diplomat to visit a military camp and seek to speak directly to officers,” he said.

“I’m not aware anyone’s threatening foreign intervention. I can assure you New Zealand isn’t,” Helen Clark, Helen Clark, Prime Minister of New Zealand, said.

At the same time, Andrew Hughes, police commissioner for Fiji, is currently on leave in Brisbane following threats. Moses Driver will now act as the police commissioner.

The military has said they will “clean up” the government if the armed forces do not get three controversial bills passed and all investigations into senior military officers are dropped.

The military has said that they do not need police permission to conduct such exercises.

Heavy snow causes disruption across northwestern Europe

Thursday, March 14, 2013

Wintry conditions are causing widespread disruption across parts of northwestern Europe over the past two days. Heavy snow as well as sub-zero temperatures have resulted in cancellations of hundreds of flights and caused traffic disruptions on major roads.

Many hundreds of passengers became stranded at Frankfurt Airport in Germany on Tuesday night as the airport closed, with many more flights cancelled yesterday. Tuesday in Paris, at the Charles de Gaulle Airport a quarter of the flights were cancelled. At Orly Airport a landing Tunisair slid, prompting evacuation of 140 passengers.

The Eurostar train service which connects London, United Kingdom with Paris, France and Brussels, Belgium was suspended after heavy snow. Many drivers stayed in their cars overnight in south Britain.

Maria Fanucchi from the Montmartre area of Paris said, “It was a winter wonderland for a day (yesterday [Tuesday]), but now it’s melting very fast. The streets are full of a dirty, slushy mix of black snow and water […] [my] trip to The Hague was canceled because the bus company didn’t want to risk getting stuck in the snow.”

Randy Tahtouh of Berlin said, “it snowed more then usual this year, well the public transport were not functioning properly and some roads were jammed”, and “in Friedrichsfelde, there was about 4 inches of snow.”

Helena Kristiansson from Brussels said she was stuck on a road for nine hours in 65 kilometers of queues; she tweeted, “Stuck at a road for Brussels closed since 5pm yesterday due to shoulder deep snow.. Really France? Really? #FML #fb”.

Belgium had over 1,600 kilometers of traffic jams during the Tuesday morning rush hour, reported the Touring breakdown assistance association, as lying snow on roads made driving difficult. The Belgian Pensions Minister Alexander De Croo struggled to attend the cabinet budget meeting as the snow hit. He said, “The budget won’t be simple, but just getting into Brussels to get started is a task of a different order altogether”.

Guernsey Airport, one of the major airports in the Channel Islands, opened on time this morning after heavy snow and ice caused the airport to close for a time yesterday.

Workouts For Mne

by

Bart Beasley

Therefore, not only will a program incorporating the best ab workouts for men and women help you obtain the highly desired chiseled and powerful looking body, it will also help maintain a healthy cardiovascular system and steer clear of the degenerative effects of running a treadmill for countless hours. Humans may be the advanced race, but our fit and lean animal cousins can teach us a thing or two when it comes to survival.

Out of all the possible muscle groups, I would say that many, many men neglect their legs. Why this is, isn\’t a mystery. Legs are pretty muscled as it is. You walk on them every day. Most of the sports you play work your legs quite regularly.

And of course, if you do a lot of cardio in the gym, you\’re working your legs. In other words, the reason you don\’t see that many

leg workouts

for men in comparison to abs or biceps or chest is because…

 • Legs aren\’t the most visible muscle group
 • They get a great workout much of the time anyway, so we think it\’s ok to maybe develop them a little less
 • It hurts to work your legs

That last point is so valid. If you want an all over workout that keeps everything in proportion, you can\’t afford to miss your legs, but working them is tough. It\’s not just like sitting with your buddies doing a few bicep curls and seeing miniature results. You\’ll be lifting scary amounts of weight.

Put a day aside, skip any cardio, to work on your legs.

The problem you may find, especially if you have a very active life, is that you\’ll be in pain the whole day. If you\’re walking around on the legs you\’ve just battered into submission you\’ll regret it. You will have a hard time walking up stairs, getting into your car. You\’ll walk like a 90 year old woman. My advice to combat this is to try to ensure that \’leg day\’ falls on a day you won\’ t be doing much.

The same way you wouldn\’t work your biceps to exhaustion on the day you\’ll be carrying your wife over the threshold, don\’t plan any long hikes in the hills on the day you work your quads.

Speaking of which, the main muscles you\’ll want to be targeting to get massive, powerful looking legs are the quads, hamstrings and calves. I expect you know the difference between the three.

So, what\’s the first exercise in this workout?

Yup, you got it, my old favorite, and every serious lifters friend

and

foe, the squat.

The thing with the squat, is that it\’s got to be executed well. You can seriously hurt yourself if you\’re not going to take care that you\’re doing it safely and the muscles you hurt are the big ones, so be careful and take some instruction from a real life person.

What the squat is not going to help with is your quads. Luckily there\’s a machine that\’s perfect for the job. The Leg, or Thigh, Extension. It\’s the one where you place your instep beneath a pad and lift up. Simple yet very effective. Do it as heavy as you can. It\’s going to hurt.

I have been working out and in the fitness industry for 20 years now and enjoy it very much i made this site so that everyone that comes to it gets everything they need to snap there body into shape.

KKE: Interview with the Greek Communist Party

Thursday, May 13, 2010

Wikinews reporter Iain Macdonald has performed an interview with Dr Isabella Margara, a London-based member of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE). In the interview Margara sets out the communist response to current events in Greece as well as discussing the viability of a communist economy for the nation. She also hit back at Petros Tzomakas, a member of another Greek far-left party which criticised KKE in a previous interview.

The interview comes amid tensions in cash-strapped Greece, where the government is introducing controversial austerity measures to try to ease the nation’s debt-problem. An international rescue package has been prepared by European Union member states and the International Monetary Fund – should Greece require a bailout; protests have been held against government attempts to manage the economic situation.

Azure Multi Factor Authentication: Delegating Administration}

Submitted by: Rossy Guide

For full multi-factor authentication functionality, Microsofts Azure Multi-Factor Authentication is the product of choice.

Delegating Administration of the server:

When we want to delegate access to admins, we delegate four things.

1. Allowing interactive logon to administrators

Allowing interactive access: To allow Remote Desktop access on a Windows Server, and then the rights to access the Multi-Factor Authentication Server management console.

To do this is to add the global security group PhoneFactor Admins to the local administrators group by applying a Group Policy Preference on a separate Organization Unit containing all the Windows Servers running Multi-Factor Authentication Server.

Alternatively, you could perform this by hand:

o Log on to the Windows Server running Multi-Factor Authentication Server with an account with sufficient permissions to change local group memberships.

o Right-click Start.

o Select Computer Management from the context menu.

o In the left navigation pane of the Computer Management window, expand Local Users and Groups.

o Click Groups.

o In the main pane, click to select the Administrators

o Right-click the group and then select Add to group from the context menu.

o On the Administrators Properties window, click Add.

o Enter the name of the PhoneFactor Admins group and click Check Names.

o Click OK.

o On the Administrators Properties window, click OK.

o Close the Computer Management

o Log off.

Perform these steps on all the Windows Servers running Multi-Factor Authentication Server within the environment.

Adding admin colleagues to the PhoneFactor Admins group:

Now, all you need to do is add your colleague admins to the PhoneFactor Admins group in Active Directory Domain Services.

2. Allowing log access

Log on interactively to the Windows Server running Multi-Factor Authentication Server and perform these actions:

o Open File Explorer using the This PC tile on the Start screen.

o Navigate to Local Disk (C:), then Program Files, then Multi-Factor Authentication Server.

o Scroll down a bit in File Explorers main pane and click the Logs folder and right-click it and select Properties from the bottom of the context menu.

o Click the Security ta

o Click the Edit button.

o On the Permissions for Logs window, click Add

o Type the name of the group you want to assign access, and then click Check Names.

o Click OK.

o On the Permissions for Logs window, click OK.

o On the Logs Properties window, click the Sharing

o Click the Advanced Sharing

o Select Share this folder.

o Give the share an appropriate and add a $ to the end of it to hide it from other Windows-based devices.

o Click OK.

o On the Logs Properties window, click Close.

o Close File Explorer.

o Log off.

3. Delegating user and authentication management

Perform these steps to delegate management via the Multi-Factor Authentication User Portal:

o Log on to the Windows Server running Multi-Factor Authentication Server with an account with sufficient permissions to manage Multi-Factor Authentication.

o Open the Multi-Factor Authentication Server management console.

o In the left pane, click User Portal.

o Click the Administrators

o Click the Add button

o In the Username field, type the name of the colleague, or use the Select User button to select the user object from the Multi-Factor Authentication database.

o Select the appropriate permissions from the two lists of delegated management options.

o Click Add.

o Close the Multi-Factor Authentication Server management console.

o Log off.

4. Delegating notifications

Here are the steps:

o Log on to the Windows Server running Multi-Factor Authentication Server with an account with sufficient permissions.

o Open the Multi-Factor Authentication Server management console.

o In the left pane, click Email.

o In the main pane, select Send notifications to User Portal administrators with the o Receive Notifications permission if it is not already selected.

o In the Send notifications to these email addresses field, add email addresses for the additional users who should receive notifications.

o Close the Multi-Factor Authentication Server management console.

o Log off.

SpaceX scrubs Falcon I rocket launch

Monday, November 28, 2005

SpaceX called off the much-delayed inaugural launch of their new Falcon 1 rocket on Saturday from Kwajalein’s Omelek Island launch site. The intent was to launch the U.S. Air Force Academy’s FalconSat 2 satellite, which will monitor plasma interactions with the Earth’s upper atmosphere and magnetosphere.

The launch was delayed, then finally cancelled after an oxygen boil-off vent had accidentally been left open. The oxygen was unable to cool the helium pressurant, which then proceeded to evaporate faster than it could be replenished. A main computer issue, probably serious enough to cause a scrub on its own, was also discovered.

This long-anticipated flight was originally expected to be launched in January 2005, however a series of setbacks forced a series of delays, with the flight most recently scheduled to be in early 2006. It was intended to be launched from the Kwajalein atoll in the middle of the Pacific Ocean.

The maiden voyage was originally intended to launch from Vandenberg Air Force Base in California with a Naval Research Laboratory satellite and a Space Services Incorporated space burial payload.
